On our Kalavryta tour, we will explore one of the most productive wine regions in Greece!
The Peloponnese also called "Polystaphyllos" * in ancient documents is dominated by high mountains and highly fertile lands. Located in the south and bordered by the sea on all sides, this mountainous landscape enjoys a mild Mediterranean climate on its coasts, making the continent more inland. A wide range of microclimates and temperatures, however, gives each vineyard a distinct character. Viticulture in the Peloponnese is fascinating and dates back to ancient times with local varieties gaining world fame.
Our Kalavryta Gastronomic Delights tour starts from the traditional village of Kalavryta. We will begin in the vineyards of Aegialia and Helmos. One of the four protected designations of origin of the Peloponnese produces dry and sweet wines. Achaia's PDO wines are made from the Roditis and Mavro Kalavrytinos varieties with some of the best vineyards located 800-1,000 meters above sea level on the slopes of Helmos. The region's sweet wines from the famous Mavrodaphne grape also have a well-justified reputation.
Our tour will take us to a selection of traditional local wineries where we will have the opportunity to taste and enjoy local wines. We will learn all there is to know about local grape varieties, traditional winemaking, and local wines
