Crossing the Vouraikos Gorge! A unique hike in a magical natural environment!
The Vouraikos River originates between the eastern reaches of Erymanthos and the western reaches of Helmos. The impressive gorge carved by the river is about 20 kilometers long! Imposing vertical slopes, rushing waterfalls, impressive caves, and rich alternating vegetation make up a unique natural landscape. The walking path we are on runs parallel to the railway line of the famous Cogwheel Railway and is marked as European Path E4. During the route, we have the opportunity to enjoy the unique natural environment of the gorge and the wonderful waters of the homonymous river!
We descend from Zakhlorou towards Diakofto passing through the rich alternating vegetation, caves with stalagmites and stalactites, and waterfalls of streams! Our hike includes a stop for a delightful picnic under the cool trees!
For our return to the starting point, we will take the Odontotos having the opportunity to enjoy its wonderful route.
The Vouraikos Gorge Crossing takes about 6 hours and is undoubtedly an easy and special experience for hikers with an adventurous spirit!
