A few words about Mount Pyxarias...
Mount Pyxarias is located in central Evia and is one of the most impressive mountains in the region. With an altitude of 1,341 meters, the mountain offers magnificent views of the Aegean Sea, while the diversity of nature that surrounds it creates ideal conditions for hiking.
Its name comes from the plant "pyxos" (boxwood) that fills its forests, while its trails offer constant changes of landscape, from open meadows to dense, shady forests.
Historically, the area around the mountain is full of myths and traditions. In this place, the ancient inhabitants believed that deities of the mountains and forests lived. The area was also important to the inhabitants due to its natural resources and rich fauna and flora.
Pyxarias is not as well known as other mountains in Greece, which makes it a quiet and unexplored haven for nature lovers. Hiking there offers an authentic experience and a connection with the natural environment, without the presence of a large number of visitors.
Our route…
Starting our route, we will encounter the magnificent plateau with the red ferns, which spread like a colorful carpet, creating a striking contrast with the rest of the vegetation. From there, the path leads us through dense forests of lush green boxwoods, which gave their name to the mountain. The feeling of absolute tranquility combined with the dense shade and shady paths make this experience unique.
As we climb, nature constantly changes its face: from open meadows to dense forests, shady passes that hide surprises at every step. The view along the entire route rewards every effort, offering panoramic images that will remain etched in your memory. A must for lovers of exploration, authentic mountain nature and hiking on unknown, but so beautiful trails!
