The Holy Trinity (Agia Triada) Monastery is probably the most impressive monastic complex of the final period of Venetian rule on Crete, due to both its scale and architectural form.
Holy Trinity Monastery (Agia Triada)
The monastery Agia Triada lies surrounded by large fields planted with olive groves, vineyards, and cypress trees in the northeast area of the Akrotiri peninsula. Monastery Gouverneto or Lady of Angels one of Crete’s oldest monasteries is located in the Akrotiri peninsula, 19 km north of Chania and 4 km from the monastery of Monastery Katholiko the mystical place for Ascetics. For visiting the Monastery, you must wear modest clothes: for women – a skirt/dress under your knees and covered shoulders for a man – trousers, a T-shirt with long sleeves
Katholiko Monastery
A visit to this monastery is part of our Trip to Akrotiri with a hike to the monastery Katholiko. In West Crete on the Akrotiri peninsula, a short distance further to the north from the monastery Gouverneto, within the wild and magnificent Avlaki gorge, lies well hidden the Monastery of Agios Ioannis the Hermit. The “Catholicon’ of the monastery with Renaissance characteristics is carved into the rock next to the cave, where according to the legend, an ascetic named Ioannis the Hermit lived at the beginning of the 16th century.
Stavros Beach
We finish our tour with lunch in the Stavros Village, where Alexei Zorbas was filming. Swim at the beach where actor Anthony Quinn danced the famous Sirtaki.
