Crossing Mount Vitsi by 4x4: From Kastoria to Nymphaio

The journey, which necessitates a robust 4x4 vehicle, typically spans between 5 to 7 hours, contingent upon prevailing weather conditions. It presents the opportunity to traverse a substantial section of Mount Vernon or Vitsi, boasting its highest peak at an elevation of 2,198 meters.

Important information:

• Embarking from Kastoria, our route winds through Vissinia, gradually ascending towards Oxya and the renowned Vitsi Ski Center. Beyond the Ski Center, we scale the summit of Vitsi before commencing our descent toward the captivating Drosopigi locale. From there, our course redirects towards Nymfaio, our ultimate destination.
• This region stands as a primary sanctuary for the majestic brown bear. The luxuriant oak and beech forests provide an awe-inspiring spectacle, particularly during the autumn months when viewed from the lower altitudes. As our ascent progresses, we encounter alpine meadows where the sighting of horse herds is a common occurrence.
• The return journey follows a rugged trail, encompassing a passage through the mountainous settlement of Perikopi.
