Off road special routes in Grevena with your own 4x4

Indicative program

Borders of Valia Kalda - Portitsa Gorge

Departure 10.00 through special routes of medium difficulty with 4x4 to mountainous Grevena. We continue towards the valley of Valia Calda which we will reach in 3 hours. We hike for about 1.15 minutes into the core of Valia Kalda with information and lessons about the fauna and flora up to the edge of Arkudorema where we will see the insectivorous piguicula, newts, buzzards, the difference between a pine and a rombolo and it will be complete information on the ecology of the area. Departure through forest routes to the Portitsa gorge.

Driving on moderately difficult special routes with:

Use four-wheel drive, Slow LOW – Fast High

• Ascent-descent techniques
• River crossing techniques
• Traction - use of straps
• Mud - Snow - Sand

PRICE: €90 per participating 4x4 vehicle

If the weather is good we can provide a full picnic lunch in the forest where the price is 15 euros per person.

The picnic includes Grilled chicken, 3 types of grilled sausages, feta cheese, tomato, olives, dessert, bread, and plenty of tsipouro or juices for the children.

Helpful tips

• The front 4X4 always waits for the rear one where there is an intersection and the convoy needs to change direction.
• In the villages, we always drive slowly because the residents, dogs, and cats have their own walking pace and of course have priority.
•   Inside the Valia kalda, which is a national forest of absolute protection, we move slowly and only on the main roads to protect the frogs (Bombina variegata) and the newts (Triturus alpestris) that live there.
•   When going uphill or going downhill it is good to have selected the correct gear in advance so you don't have to change on the fly in a difficult field and be careful to always move vertically at the entrance and exit.
•   It's fine where you can wear a seat belt.
•   It is good to have full knowledge of your vehicle's 4x4 systems High and low.
•   Be careful of your top speed when choosing the locking differential on the rear axle.
•   There is one goal: With the car, you came to the mountains of Pindos to return home with it, so don't push it to its limits.
