Volia Calda: an ark of wildlife!
In the shade of upright black pines and the roots of towering cypress trees, beside swollen brooks gushing gurgling water from everywhere, the fresh tracks of bear and wild boar, the rhythmic beat of the black woodpecker and the happy walk of the ash woodpecker mark one of the last unspoiled pockets wildlife of the Greek nature.
The full five months of the winter lockout are almost over...
It's only a matter of days. The mountain pass of Stavros, up there in Perivoli, will be freed from the last snowfalls that persist until the beginning of May, making the rickety road of the forest road that leads to the core of the North Pindos National Park, the now well-known "Valia Kalda" inaccessible. So the first spring visitors will now be able to enjoy the "Warm Valley", what its Vlach name literally means in our language.

TOP OF FLEGA - DRAGOLIMNES - VALIA KALDA - ARKOUDOREMA - AOOS
Day 1: Peak Flega at 2159m
Departure by 4x4 from Metsovo or Grevena to the Metsovo refuge. Hike to the top of Flega and its twin dragon lakes. We descend on the path of the Ursa trail and then we reach the valley of Valia Kalda. Setting up camp, preparing food, and spending the night at the edge of the valley near Arkudorema. Running times 7.00 – 8.00
2nd day: Crossing Arkudorema
Breakfast and departure to cross the Arkudoremos until the confluence with the Aoos river. Bathing in the river, preparing food, and returning to camp. Running time 5.00.
3rd day: Breakfast and we continue to the imposing gorge of Portitsa or to Metsovo. End of program.
