Hiking on the 2 highest mountains of Evia - Dirfi & Xerovouni
Activity Description
Dirfys and Xerovuni - the 2 highest mountains of Evia await us on a delightful hike, suitable for everyone!
A few words about our favorite mountains
Xerovouni is a limestone massif in Central Evia and is essentially a continuation of the Dirfis mountain complex. Its highest peak, Portaris, has an altitude of 1,453 m. The vegetation of the mountain consists mainly of pines and firs and secondarily of beech and chestnut forests.
Directly opposite dominates the majestic Dirfys. Dirfi or Dirfys is one of the most beautiful mountains and rich in vegetation in the center of Evia. The main peak of Dirfi, Delphi has an altitude of 1,743 meters and is clearly visible from afar. It is wild and steep and, with the exception of the mountains of Crete, it is the highest mountain in island Greece. In ancient times, Delphi is said to have had a temple of Hera Dyrphya, commemorating her marriage to Zeus, which had taken place there. The mountain Dirfi was dedicated to her, that's why she was called "Dirfya or Heavenly Hera".
Our route: Diaselo - Dirfyos Refuge - Diaselo - Xerovouni Plateau
The first part of our hike will be up to the shelter of Dirfi to enjoy the view of the wild, alpine and impressive mountain.
We will return and hike through the lush green fir forest to the Xerovouni plateau, where we will enjoy the second highest peak of Evia in a breathtaking view.
At the end of the activity, there will be local sweet treats (apple pie and homemade cool lemonade).
