Hiking in the villages of Kalarytes & Syrrako in the Tzoumerka

Syrrako and Kalarrytes, the twin villages of Tzoumerka, are undoubtedly the most impressive settlements in the area!

• Syrrako, built at 1,150 meters on the slope of Mount Lakmos, seems to be hanging over the impressive gorge of the Chrousia River. On the other side, Kalarrytes, built exactly opposite, on the slope of Poulania at 1,200 meters, overlook the magnificent peaks.
• Even though the villages seem close to each other, they are separated by the steep Kalarrytikos River gorge.
• These historical settlements preserve their traditional architecture unchanged with stone houses and roofs made of slate.
• The Kalarrytes-Syrrako hiking trail follows a well-preserved path that leads us deep into the gorge, from where we ascend towards Syrrako.
• We can admire the biodiversity of the area in this beautiful natural environment.
• In a place hidden from the sun, in the Chrousia Gorge, we will walk in the footsteps of the ancient Selloi and learn about their trade routes, the roads that led them to both the East and the West, where they sold aromatic tobacco and the unique woven fabrics of Syrrako & Kalarrytes.
