Full-day Athens Wine tour & Cape Sounio
Activity Description
What better way to spend your day rather than taking an exciting getaway from Athens city center and exploring one of Attica’s best wineries? Join us on a daily wine tour and let us guide you through the entire process of wine production and give you a good insight into the 4.000 years of history of winemaking in Greece!
According to the mythology, Dionysus, the god of wine and mirth, entrusted Attica’s residents with the secrets of viticulture and the art of wine drinking-thousands of years ago. Mesogaia region is blessed with a mild climate, year-round sunshine, and rich soil, surrounded both by high mountains and the sea, all of which contribute to a great variety of quality wines, equivalent to their internationally acclaimed counterparts. Let’s not forget that Attica is one of the oldest wine–producing regions in the world!
You will have the chance to taste some well–known Greek varieties, such as Savvatiano – produced only in the Attica region – Assyrtiko, Malagouzia, Agiorgitiko, and Athiri, as well as international varieties such as Cabernet, Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah. Learn straight from the local wine producers the secrets of each variety, walk through the beautiful vineyards, and take back home some delightful Greek wines, right from their source!
Plus: combine your wine experience with a visit to Cape Sounio, where you can admire the impressive Temple of Poseidon and the breathtaking views of the Saronic Gulf!
Schedule:
This tour will take you on an unforgettable experience in the beautiful Attica South coastal zone!
After breakfast, we will pick you up from your hotel at about 9:30 am and we will drive along the main coastal avenue of Athens heading to Anavyssos. On our way, you can admire the stunning views of the deep blue crystal clear waters of the Saronic Gulf and the nice Athenian beaches!
In less than 1 hour, we will get to one of the most renowned wineries of the Attica region, where you can explore the magical world of wines! We will first walk through the vineyards, while our local guide will give us more information regarding the different grape varieties. Afterward, we will visit the winery, where we will explain to you the winemaking method from the processing of the must to the wine production and bottling. You will then taste 3 to 5 different varieties of fine Greek wines, accompanied by breadsticks and cheese.
Around noon, you can enjoy your lunch in one of the traditional seaside tavernas in Palea Fokea, before we head to the dramatical Cape Sounio, located at the southernmost tip of the Attica peninsula. This is one of the best places to visit on a half-day excursion from Athens. Standing atop sheer cliffs overlooking the Aegean Sea, the Temple of Poseidon is one of the most important archaeological sites in Attica, having also served as a landmark for sailors from ancient times until today. You walk around the archaeological site and feel the energy that this site fills you with.
Do not forget your cameras, as every single photo was taken there could be a card postal!
Depending on the season, we can enjoy a swim in the clear fresh waters of the Aegean Sea and relax, until we board our private car for our return way.
