Activity Description
Crossing the Charadra of Vikos is a real milestone in the life of a hiker. This is the most famous and impressive gorge in Greece! Haradra of Vikos is located in the heart of the Vikos-Aoos National Forest, which joined the UNESCO European Network of Geoparks in 2010. As the deepest canyon in proportion to its width in the world it has also earned a place in the Guinness book!
The breathtaking view of the vertical limestone cliffs, which were created on the bottom of ancient oceans, about 150 million years ago, is breathtaking! The huge variety of plants and animals make up a landscape of unparalleled natural beauty and great ecological value. According to research, the species of plants alone are estimated at 1,800. In the area we find large trees, such as huge maples, lindens and anchovies, as well as shrubs and flowers! Among them, the paleo-endemic species of the Balkans "Ramonda" - Ramonda Servica - has a special place, since it has been growing in the area since the last glacial period.
