3-day climb to the top of Smolika – Drakolimni Smolika 25-27/10
Activity Description
As an extension of the Alps, Smolikas does not lose anything from their beauty, nor from their size.
Smolikas, in turn, is the second highest mountain in Greece after Olympus, having its peak at 2,637 meters
The size of the massif and the magnificent Drakolimni, surrounded by a green natural landscape of rare beauty, offer us unforgettable images.
Drakolimni of Smolika is the second largest subalpine lake in Greece, after the equivalent of Tymfi.
The program starts on Saturday morning when we will leave Athens for the village of Palioseli.
After our arrival in the area we will take the path that leads us without any technical difficulty to the shelter of Smolikas.
A very beautiful route in the forest of robola, black pine and beech.
The second day, in addition to being very beautiful, will also be very difficult, with a route to Drakolimni Smolika and a climb to the top, our route will be strenuous and will take place in a beautiful alpine landscape
The final climb to the top requires very good physical condition, but the achievement of the goal and the view from above repays the effort even more!!
After completing the climb we will return to the shelter.
On the third day of the program we will start our descent towards Palioseli.

Smolikas is the second highest mountain in Greece. Its size is awe-inspiring from any angle.

Smolikas occupies the northern part of the prefecture of Ioannina and the western part of the prefecture of Grevena. It extends to the west and north-west.
Drakolimni of Smolika has an area of about 4 acres, but it is very deep. Drakolimni has an irregular shape, and resembles a heart.
The bottom near the banks tends to turn red, while the waters are home to quite a few alpine newts.
It is also known as Lyga, but the Vlach-speaking inhabitants of the surrounding areas also call it Laku-Vinitou, which translates to "Blue Lake". Of course, the reason for this name is its blue waters, which consistently impress visitors.
One of its most impressive features is a small opening on one side of it creates a stream, which falls spectacularly down the cliff.
