2-day ascent to Drakolimni Tymfi
Activity Description
The famous "Drakolimni" is located on the slopes of Tymfi at an altitude of 2050m. One of the most "Alpine" landscapes in Greece, enchanted the inhabitants of Zagori creating legends and stories about its waters. A paradise for lovers of mountain hiking, it compensates the visitor at every step with the magnificent view to all the mountains of Pindos.
Day 1: At the shelter of Astraka
Our ascent starts from Mikro Papigo, and goes up on a very good path for about 3 hours. Our route starts in a beautiful mixed forest with hazelnuts, skulls, oaks, maples etc. Then the landscape changes and we go out to the subalpine meadows. On the way to the shelter we meet 4 fountains so the coolness is a given.

- Altitude difference: 1000 meters
Day 2: Visit the dragon lake and return to Papigo.
From the shelter we start downhill to Lakka Tsoumani, which we cross. On the way we will meet a herd of wild horses, and we will enjoy the unique alpine landscapes formed by Astraka and the peaks of Tymfi. The lake will appear in front of us after 30 minutes of uphill route. The return is by the same path and after a short break at the shelter.

A few words about the shelter:
The shelter of Astraka belongs to the category of alpine shelters. The peculiarities of these shelters are that due to the inaccessible points they are in and the difficulties they face in their operation and management, they have some rules of operation. So you should know:
- The shelter meets the basic needs of electricity from solar panels and an oil generator
- Accommodation is in rooms with bunk beds 8 beds and up
- What we will stay is arranged by the shelter manager
- There is a self-service restaurant with specific opening hours
- The shelter turns off the lights at 10 pm
- There are shared toilets and showers with cold water only
- There is electricity only for the operational needs of the shelter but also for charging the telephone
- Inside the premises, we move only with slippers
