The program in detail
Day 1
From the meeting point in Litohoro we go by car to the forest area of Prionia, where our ascent begins. Prionia is a forest area at about 1.100m alt. The ascent follows the path Prionia-Spilios Agapitos refuge. We climb through a green landscape, following the international path e4, a well-maintained path with steady and mild slopes.
We will admire the biodiversity of our National Forest. The forest consists of mainly beeches, pines, and firs. We will surely be impressed by the fairy-tale Rombola and by the diversity of the low vegetation and flowers.
After two and a half to three hours of hiking, we reach the refuge of the Agapitos refuge. We make our way up to 2.100m alt. At the refuge we will be able to drink a cup of coffee or tea and from its balcony we will enjoy the view of the mountain tops of Olympus and the infinite blue of the Aegean Sea. We will overnight to refuge.
Day 2
Departure from Agapitos refuge morning, a zigzagging trail brings us just under the mountain’s main summits. After 4-5 hrs walking we reach the plateau of the Muses and the refuge of “Giosos Apostolidis” which is also fully organized refuge, where we will spend the night on the second day. The ascent to the peaks will take place of the same day or in the morning of the next day, if the weather conditions do not prevent us. The ascent will be made with the use of appropriate safety climbing equipment (helmet, climbing belt, rope) and accompanied by experienced climbing instructor guides.
Day 3
Day 3 starts with a leisurely breakfast (as long as we have climbed Mytika the day before). So we will start our descent relaxed to admire the wonderful view of the peaks of Olympus. The descent will be by a different path and in almost 2 hours we will reach the refuge (Petrostruga at 1,940 m) we will take a break and start our final descent to our destination, Gortsia. 2 – 3 hours of walking) from where we will be transferred back to the village of Litochoro.
