Rafting in the Secret River

The route starts at the Mesochora dam (at the boundaries of Arta Trikala counties) and ends at the Sykia dam (Karditsa, Evritania Arta counties).In this length, Acheloos had never been descended because of diversion works. We tried it and discovered the most beautiful river, which many places had never seen a human eye !! It's an unforgettable experience that will be unforgettable to you !! 7 hours rafting in total 30 km crossing three prefectures (Trikala-Arta-Karditsa)

Route information

• 2nd-3rd degree of difficulty
• 7 hours downhill (two days camping)
• Usually meet at 12:00 in the village of Stournaraika Trikala (square) leave your car and continue jeep up to the dam of Mesochora.
• Once we load our personal belongings and camp equipment into the jeep, we begin the first day of descending into a river with 2-3 degrees of continuous passes. The scenery is magnificent !! We come across time-lapsed overhead bridges, hidden passages, and crystal-clear turquoise waters. in a beautiful setting with forests reaching the banks of the river
• After about 3 hours downhill with short stops for swimming and diving, we arrive in the afternoon at the campground where our jeeps are waiting for us, set up tents for the night, and do barbecues.
• The next day after breakfast we start again with the boats and enter the Acheloos Grand Canyon (here are the boundaries of the Arta - Karditsa prefectures) the descent is easier today but in a section with steep vertical mountains on both sides of the river, waterfalls run from everywhere !! We will cross the famous Fango Gorge (here killed Aris Velouhiotis), the Nereidovris and we will stop to walk in Kostianos Canyon !!
• We continue and after passing narrowly under the monastery of Seltsos we reach the dam of Sykia where the descent ends.
• Rest and lunch at a local tavern and then after crossing the Jeeps to the North Agrafa in 1.30 to 2 hours we return to our cars in Stournarnika.
