Macedonian Treasures: Veria-Vergina

Τhis excursion combines an archaeological tour and the visit to a famous pilgrim/religious destination in Greece, the City of Veria. Veria, a town well-known for its religious history as St.Paul preached there on his 2nd missionary journey.

Afterwards we will head towards Vergina or “Aegae “ as per its ancient name, the first capital of Ancient Macedonia. Together with our professional licenced guide we enter the New Museum of Aigai, a gate to the History of the Royal metropolis of the Macedon, which was recently inaugurated. There you will be informed about the history, the culture and the daily life of Macedons. More specifically, its exhibitions focusing on the architecture, sculpture and grave goods, house impressive and unique findings like ancient weapons, pottery and precious jewelry. Here we will visit the new museum of Aegae and the Vergina Royal Tombs, protected by Unesco.

After the visit to the Nea Museum of Aegae, we will continue our excursion to the Royal Tombs of Vergina. Seize the opportunity to get under the tumulus that covers impressive funerary monuments like the royal tomb of Philip II, father of Alexander the Great and houses extraordinary golden treasures dated back to 4th B.C, a breathtaking scenery which will stay in your memories forever.

At the end of our tour free time is given for approx. 1 hour. We will have a short stop for lunch/free time at Vergina Village where the Tombs are located, optional visit to the Royal Palace.

After our last visiting point and the departure, you will be dropped off at your pick up point at the estimated time of arrival.

Itinerary

05:30 - 07:30         Pick up of guests from meeting points and departure to Veria.

08:30 - 09:00         Arrival at Veria, short stop at St. Paul's Footsteps.

09:30                      Departure from Veria to Vergina.

10:00 - 11:10         Arrival to Vergina, visit the New Museum of Aigai.

11:30 - 13:00         Guided Tour of the Royal Tombs.

13:00 - 14:15         Free Time at Vergina Village.

14:15                       Departure to Thessaloniki/ Halkidiki.

14:15 - 15:45          Arrival at Thessaloniki. End of Services.

* The pick-up time depends on the meeting point you choose. The further away from the center of Thessaloniki the meeting point is, the earlier the pick-up time will be.

* The total duration of the activity can be 10 hours for guests staying in Thessaloniki or its surroundings and 12 hours for guests staying in Halkidiki.
The actual duration of the tour in the city is the same for both options.

• Travellers should proceed at the pickup point at least 10 minutes before departure time. 
• The transfer of small-sized animals to 7kg is permitted by the organizer in special dimensions baskets of 50X40X70cm and only in the passenger compartment. The responsibility for their supervision throughout the duration of the trip (food, water, shadow, tranquility) is of their owners.
