Hot air balloon flight in Crete
Activity Description
A hot air balloon is a lighter-than-air aircraft in which you can experience extreme silence, no sense of movement and unparalleled views as if you were a bird yourself! Since the balloon moves with the direction of the winds, passengers feel no wind at all, except for brief periods during flight when the balloon ascends or descends in air currents of different direction or speed. Hot air ballooning has been recognized by the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI) as the safest air sport!
Highlights:
- Unforgettable hot air balloon rides in Greece with experienced pilots.
- Privately or in mini-groups. Daily aerial flights over the Lasithi plateau and ancient Thebes.
- Celebrate the special moments of your life with us: marriage proposals, birthdays and anniversaries.
- Watch fantastic landscapes from the basket of the hot air balloon!
Meeting and landing:
We can take you to the starting point. After a safe landing we will bring you back to your hotel.
Important information :
- Our company has various balloons. A maximum of 10-12 people can fit in one basket. The exact number of people in the basket depends on the total weight. Each balloon has a maximum allowable lift weight.
- We work with a variety of professional photographers with experience in aerial photography to ensure that your photo shoot is successful and safe.
- Flights to Crete take place all year round weather permitting. We care about safety, that's why we plan our flights carefully and with the best possible weather conditions.
- Safety depends on the weather conditions, which is why we cancel tours on bad weather days (when it is raining or blowing strong wind).
- The best time of year to fly is spring and fall when there is no extreme heat.
- Flights take place early in the morning, at sunrise, or in the evening. At this time of day, the wind calms down.
- In Crete, the flights take place on the Lasithi Plateau. The plateau is located in the eastern part of Crete at an altitude of 850 meters above sea level. This is a very picturesque place, where you can take amazingly beautiful photos. The Lasithi Plateau is famous for its unusual windmills and the cave where, according to legend, Zeus was born.
- Very few people get motion sickness during a flight, but it is recommended to avoid fatty foods and especially alcohol before the trip.
- If you usually get motion sickness during transportation, it is better to take a pill against it.
- We also do not recommend drinking a lot of fluids before the excursion — the flight lasts 40-50 minutes and there is no toilet in the balloon.
- For the flight, it is good to choose clothes made of cotton in a sporty style. They should be comfortable and not restrict your movements. For women, it is better to wear trousers rather than a skirt, as the basket is quite high, so it will be easier to climb into the basket in trousers.
- During the entire flight you will have to stand, so the shoes should be as comfortable as possible, without heels, for example, sports shoes.
- Make sure to wear a hat so the sun doesn't heat your head.
- The temperature at altitude drops about 2°C per 1,000 feet (304 meters), so it's not likely to get too cold. The wind, however, can make you uncomfortable — it's a good idea to bring a jacket.
- If you have a camera with you or plan to take pictures with your mobile phone, it is better to hang it on a string or chain so that it does not fall down.
- The day before the flight you will receive detailed information about the time and place of departure. The acceptable delay at the starting point is 10 minutes. If you wish, we can arrange transportation from your hotel in a comfortable minivan or minibus. Transfer depends on the plan you choose. Shuttle service is charged extra.
- The hot air balloons are operated by certified pilots, who estimate the route and flight time based on the weather forecast and current weather conditions. We will not start the flight until the weather conditions are ideal.
- The pilots were trained at the European Balloon School. We have a license to organize hot-air balloon tours.
