Hiking to Lake Doxa (transportation from Amaliada and Pyrgos)

Lake Doxa is the exception to the classic rule that the trailer is almost always better than the film.

Lake Doxa is artificial and is located at an altitude of 880 meters, in the heart of Ancient Feneos. Its construction was completed in the late 1990s, with the creation of a 225-meter-long dam in the bed of the Doxa stream, which was intended to meet the irrigation needs of the Feneos valley. Thus Lake Doxa was created, in the waters of which the colorful mixed forests of the Corinthian Mountains are reflected, creating a unique illusion. A landmark in the center of the lake is the chapel of Agios Fanourios.

Route 1

From the shores of Lake Doxa begins one of the most beautiful trails in the mountainous Peloponnese, initially uphill, passing through a dense fir forest, continuing with holly and oak trees and descending back to the lake. These forests are an ideal refuge for the wildlife of Corinth.

Route 2

Our second option is a circular route around Lake Doxa and a visit to the Holy Monastery of Agios Georgios Feneos, a historic monastery with a great contribution to the Struggle of 1821, as it hosted many chieftains such as Papaflessas and Kolokotronis, with the latter unleashing from there that terrible word “axe and fire to the pilgrims”. The monastery also offers panoramic views of the lake.
