Hiking in Ano Doliana
Activity Description
Hiking in Ano Doliana - Remia Agianni - Tselopou Vineyards
Ano Doliana is at a thousand meters altitude. Twenty kilometers from Tripoli and two and a half hours from Athens. They are built on a verdant slope with eight different species of deciduous trees (chestnut, oak, plane tree, cherry, apple, pear, hazelnut, walnut), presenting a unique spectacle, mainly in autumn.
The village has a rich history and many peculiarities, such as the fact that in winter it is abandoned by its inhabitants, who move to the lower village of Kato Doliana.
The hiking trail in the ravine of Agiannis starts from the center of the village and follows an initial path next to the brook, under the bush of tall trees.
We will walk by listening to the sound of dry leaves beneath our steps and, if we are quiet enough, we will hear the sound they make as they leave the branches.
Then we will enter the dry riverbed, meet the ruins of abandoned watermills and talk about the flora and fauna, but also about the history, myths and traditions of the area.
After about 5 kilometers of easy and relaxed hiking we will reach the chapel of Panagia Kouliotissa under the tall plane trees and walnuts and from there we will reach the vineyards of Tsepelos Estate after 2 kilometers of dirt road.
The Kouvli area is the southeastern end of the Tripoli plateau. From there begins to erect the massif of Parnonas.
Vineyards have been cultivated in the area in the past, so numerous flax, stone buildings of beautiful architecture are encountered throughout the area, where the grapes are pressed directly.
For a period, the cultivation of the vine was abandoned in order to devote the field almost exclusively to the cultivation of fruit trees.
In recent years, viticulture has been dominated again, with the center of activity being the winery of Tselepos Estate, built in a large privately owned vineyard of 300 acres and fully adapted to the environment and ecosystem of the area.
After wandering around the vineyards for a while, we will end up in a specially designed picnic area in the courtyard of a fully restored and imposing watermill. Named Kokkinomilos, which has given its name to one of the estate's fine wines. There, those who choose the same package, in addition to the dishes 5ente has prepared, will be able to taste three of the fine wines of the "Tselepos Estate" Winery.
