What could be more beautiful than taking a night hike in Penteli with a full moon?
The March full moon is one of the largest full moons of the year and is called the Worm Moon. There are several versions of how it got its name. One of them is that it was named after an 18th century explorer, who wrote that this name refers to a type of “worm”, which are beetle larvae that begin to emerge in March when the weather warms up. If we are careful, we will notice that its light reflects on the marble and sparkles. The Pentelic mountain, known worldwide since antiquity for the quality of its marble, which craftsmen quarried from there, gives us the opportunity to visit it to admire up close the ancient quarries, the slides that rolled the marbles as well as the magnificent view of Athens. We will see the houses where the workers lived as well as 2 very beautiful and picturesque chapels, of Agios Nikitas and Agios Loukas.
Our route will start from the Forest Road of Aloula and we will head towards the open-air Museum of Quarrying Art. Continuing, we will hike towards the chapels of Agios Loukas and Agios Nikitas, admiring in places from above the beautiful view of Athens. Then we will take the return path to return to our starting point. On our return, we will be able to relax and spend some time gazing at the magnificent full moon. Our route may change depending on the dynamics of the group.
