3-day PROGRAM
- Saturday, August 10
07:00 Departure from Kalamata and meeting of participants at the predetermined points.
The transport will be carried out with 9 seater vans.
Destination: To Litochoro and from there to Thesi Gortsia at 1,100 meters altitude.
14:00 Start of hiking from the Gortsia position to the Petrostruunga shelter at 2,000m
During our ascent we will pass by special points of interest, you will get to know the local stories, legends and mythology that surround the mythical mountain, you will find yourself in the most suitable places to photograph the unique landscapes of Olympus.
The Gortsia location, as well as the entire route to the Petrostruga shelter where we will spend the night, is located in a dense beech forest that alternates constantly with pine and fir.
The shelter of Petrostruga is located through the age-old rombolas that surround it. There we will find hot food and warm places to quench our tiredness!
17:30 Arrival at our destination.
- Sunday, August 11
The next morning will find us on the road to the plateau of the Muses. We will pass by the Sarakatsan shepherds' huts and head for the top of Skurta. As we ascend and exit the alpine zone, the panoramic view of Thermaikos gulf, Thessaloniki and the Pieriki coast will captivate our gaze. But what will fascinate you will be the sight of the ridge, or rather the "neck", as it is usually called, that leads to the plateau of the Muses and the throne of Zeus.
The fatigue is gone and from here we will have the opportunity to see most of the 55 peaks over 2000 meters that Olympus has. Arriving at the plateau, we will rest at the imposing shelter of Ioss Apostolidis. Food, a little rest and we leave for the summit. Throughout the ascent and descent, from and to the top, there will be use of a rope and safety equipment that we will have received from the beginning of our hike.
During the descent from the summit to the shelter of Petrostruga, another stop will be made at the shelter of the plateau for the necessary replenishment of supplies. In the late afternoon to evening we will find ourselves at the Petrostruga refuge, where a modest and humble mountaineering feast will take place, a la Petrostruga as well as the debriefing.
- Monday, August 12
On Monday morning anyone can wake up at whatever time they want as long as they are ready for departure at 11:30. Those who want to enjoy and photograph the sunrise will obviously wake up earlier.
With the necessary stops and a little more patience, we will continue to Gortia. The cold waters are waiting for us to take all the fatigue from our aching feet!
In Litochoro, in addition to the stop for ice therapy, there will be another stop for food and coffee.
However, this climb will not be just any climb. It will be an experiential tour by professional mountain guides.
